with president obama and joe biden in campaign mode. michael steele was the chair of the republican national committee and howard fineman is the editorial director of "the huffington post." both are msnbc political analysts. let's take a look at joe biden. he's on fire today. the president and vice president was fired up. he took on the republican candidates naming names and leveling a tax on all their candidates. here's some of his speech from today. let's watch. >> mitt romney, rick santorum, and newt gingrich, these guys have a fundamentally different economic philosophy than we do. simply stated, we're about promoting the private sector. they are about protecting the privileged sector. we are for a fair shot and a fair shake. they are about no rules, no risks, and no accountability. i want to tell you what's real. economic theories. they are bankrupt. if you give any one of these guys the keys to the white house, they will bankrupt the middle class again. >> well, let me start with howard. it's my sense they are beefing up the second half of their ticket. biden is on the ticket clearly.

, they just completely lost it. and you and i were talking earlier that i remember a time when michael steele ran afoul of rush limbaugh and had to back off. they're not going to do that now. >> they can't afford to back off right now. now speaker boehner who said today inappropriate. others would say he's not us, he's a performer, he's an entertainer, he needs to cause controversy. that's how he gets listeners and gins things up. however he is a powerful voice in the company movement. he can cause problems and issues for the party. in the 2008 election there were 70 million women voters, 60 million male voters. simple math there. and barack obama won 56% to 43% among women. they essentially split obama and mccain the male vote. >> women pick the winners. they absolutely pick the winners. that's why you see the democrats so all over this. i mean, this is just manna from heaven for them. in the last three months all four of the republican candidates except for ron paul have seen their numbers among women fall. >> and it becomes, look, this is an election about the economy. this is an election

at santorum, it will be interesting to see what happens because when michael steele gave that same comment about limbaugh being an entertainer he got killed for it and was forced to apologize. i wonder what will happen to santorum. he may find himself in a bit of a glitch. the comments were out reasoningous and should never have been made. that goes without saying. >> why do you think mitt romney's comments are go good and why you think any of the front-runners on the republican side weighed in with a more aggressive condemnation? >> romney could have been a little more aggressive, but you don't pick a fight with rush limbaugh. >> is that what it is? >> yeah, to some extent, and plus he was able -- more importantly, politically, he was able to bring it back to the issues. he's going strong into ohio and he should stay on his message and not get tangled up into any of this conversation. >> ann, do you agree with that because my question to you is have one of the candidates stepped up and really condemned limbaugh's comments? might it should helped in the primary in do you think there's poli
